It has been a while.  Sorry, I haven’t kept in touch.  I’ve been, hmmm, not to sound cliche but I’ve been getting back in touch with myself.  Three years working for a large media company was great but there are trade offs, creatively and emotionally.  The choice to leave was not easy but necessary.  So I left for six months.  Traveled through Siberia, Central and South America.  I’ll write more in detail about that in future posts but for now, I just want to reestablish the rapport we once had.  Coming back to freelancing is like walking into your local coffee shop and bumping into your ex.  It’s familiar, comfortable but at the same time anxious and a little jarring.  You say hello, your voice cracks a little and you clear your throat to gain some vocal composure.  You chat for a bit and start to think, ‘Could this work again?’

So now, here I am easing back into the freelancer life.  First step, new website.  This updated site is mobile friendly, something my last site was lacking.  Step two, put up new photos.  This step is harder than it sounds.  I returned from Siberia at the beginning of September and it’s taken me until now to go through roughly half of my images, having only put up a small selection of my travel portraits.  It’s a work in progress.  Step three, finding and following up on leads.  This is probably the most labour intensive and most awkward step because there is no clear road map to finding work.  You have to put in work to get work and sometimes, it comes from a place you’d least expect it.

I’ll be honest, being back on the freelance market is a little terrifying but having the opportunity to start fresh and create my own adventure is exciting.  Let’s be grateful and see where this new chapter leads… oh and if you need or know someone who needs a photographer/video guy, my rates are competitive and I’m easy to work with. 😉
